What is a mentor?

A mentor leverages their knowledge and experience in a particular area to provide advice to the mentee so they can become more successful in their work.

What is a coach?
A coach is defined by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) as a person who partners with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.

What is the coaching process?
Coaching is a client-driven process. The coach's responsibility is to:
-
Discover, clarify and align with what the client wants to achieve
-
Encourage client self-discovery
-
Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies
-
Hold the client responsible and accountable

What is the difference between a mentor and a coach?
The main difference is that the mentor is seen as the expert and provides answers based on her experience in the subject. Whereas the coach adheres to the belief that the client is naturally creative, resourceful and whole and uses exploration, visualization, embodiment, powerful questions and other techniques to help the client discover their own answers, make resonant choices and take actions in alignment with their vision and values.
